Lately I have been working on some small16 x 16 inch paintings in acrylic. I had planned to paint one a day but summer got in the way.It has taken me a couple of weeks to finish these two but I am having fun with them.
They are almost finished. I am enjoying the colourful palette and limiting my colours to only 4 tubes of paint. A yellow, red and blue plus white. If I get one I really like I will probably make a larger copy of it in oils. I plan to make at least 8 this size using the same limited palette. The tree trunks are a mixture of the red and blue and a small amt. of yellow.
It is surprising how dark a colour you can get without using black. I rarely use black but if I need a darker colour I will mix raw umber and ultra marine blue or crimson red together. This is as close to black you can get without using black. Sometimes I will mix a small amout of black with cad yellow to get a nice sagey green colour. I used this a lot in my BC Forrest Series.
